How to Export Your Questrade Transaction History for Tax Calculation

To calculate your taxes using Active ACB, you need to export your trading activity from Questrade as an Excel file. Follow these steps carefully.

Step 1

Log In to Questrade

Go to my.questrade.com and log in to your account using your User ID and password.

Step 4

Set the Date Range and Select All Activity Types

On the Transaction history page, set your date range to cover your full trading history for the most accurate results.

Click the start date field and select the date you opened your Questrade account (or the earliest date available). Click the end date field and select December 31 of the tax year you are filing for, or today’s date if calculating year-to-date.

The engine processes all years chronologically to compute correct pooled Adjusted Cost Base under Canadian tax rules, but only reports dispositions for your selected tax year.

If your full trading history is too large to export in a single file, split it into multiple date ranges and upload all files together using the Add another account button on the calculation page.

If you don’t need your complete history, at minimum include all activity from the earliest purchase of any security you still held at the start of the tax year.

Below the date selector you will see an Activity types section with categories such as Trades, Dividends, Deposits, FX conversion, Fees and rebates, and Other. Make sure all activity types are selected. Click Select all if any are deselected. You need every category included for an accurate tax calculation.

Step 5

Export to Excel

Once your date range is set and all activity types are selected, click the Export to Excel button located next to the date range fields at the top of the page. An Excel file containing all of your transaction data for the selected period will download to your computer.

Step 6

Upload to Active ACB

Once you have the downloaded Excel file, return to Active ACB and upload it using the import tool. Your trades, dividends, fees, and all relevant tax data will be parsed automatically.

Multiple Questrade accounts including TFSA or RRSP: The Questrade Activity export can cover all your accounts in one file. If your export includes a registered account (TFSA, RRSP, or FHSA), those rows are excluded automatically based on account type. If for any reason a registered account is not filtered automatically, enter its account number in the Registered account IDs to exclude field on the upload page. Your Questrade account number is visible in the top-left of the dashboard (e.g., 12345678).
