How to Export Your TD Direct Investing Activity for Tax Calculation
TD WebBroker exports your account activity as a CSV from the Activity tab. Follow these steps to download it and upload it to the ACB calculator, which reads the file directly.
Log In to WebBroker
Go to TD Direct Investing and sign in to WebBroker from a computer. The TD app shows your orders and performance, but TD documents no export from it.
Open the Activity Tab
Click Accounts. Each account has four tabs named Holdings, Activity, Performance and Gain/Loss. Open Activity for your non-registered account.
Two currencies means two exports. The Canadian-dollar and US-dollar sides of a TD account are separate sub-accounts, each with its own Activity list. Export both and upload them together.
Set the Widest Date Range
Choose a custom range reaching back to the day the account was opened. ACB is cumulative, so one year on its own gives the wrong cost base for anything bought earlier. If you sold at a loss in December, extend the range through January 30 of the following year.
TD does not publish how far back Activity reaches. Customers have long reported a window of about 60 days. An export we received in September 2026 reached back 13 months. Whatever your screen returns, look at the earliest row in the file so you know where your history starts.
Make it a habit. Download the Activity CSV every month or two so the files overlap. Rows that appear in two files are counted once.
Export the CSV
Use Export at the top right of the list, beside Print. TD offers CSV only for Activity. The file is named after the account and the day you downloaded it, in the form account-activity-29-Sep-2026.csv, and has 11 columns. They are Trade Date, Settle Date, Description, Symbol, Action, Quantity, Price, Commission, Net Amount, Security Type and Currency.
Upload the file as downloaded. Do not open and re-save it in a spreadsheet first. TD writes round quantities with an exponent (1E+2 for 100 shares), and a spreadsheet re-save can keep only three significant digits, which can turn 12,340 shares into 12,300. The calculator checks every such quantity against the row’s price and net amount and refuses one that no longer adds up.
Fill In Older History
If Activity does not reach back to the account opening, TD has two more sources. Neither is read automatically. Use them alongside statements and trade confirmations to reconstruct all missing buys, sells and other ACB adjustments. Add missing trades through the trade editor and record related cost-base changes. Purchases alone are not enough.
The Gain/Loss tab accepts a custom date range, with filters for symbol and transaction type, and has its own Export. It lists sales with their book cost, plus dividends and interest. It does not list purchases. The year-end package under Accounts, Documents (eServices), Tax Documents holds a Trading Summary with purchase and sale prices, dates and commissions for each of the last eight tax years, for non-registered accounts.
Upload to ActiveACB
Drop the files on the calculator. An export with the Symbol, Security Type and Currency columns is labelled TD CSV and read directly, with no column mapping. Buys and sells take their cash from Net Amount. Option trades take their contract from the Symbol column, with TD’s OPENING and CLOSING markers telling a written contract from a bought one. Expiry and assignment rows are matched to the contract they close, and a row carrying an AS OF date is dated to that day. Dividends carry their withholding, margin interest is recorded as an expense, and TD Investment Savings Account interest reinvested as units adds to the fund’s cost.
Written options spanning tax years. ActiveACB currently recognizes their premiums when the position closes. Review and adjust the affected returns for the write-year reporting and later-exercise rules explained in the options guide.
Non-registered accounts only. The file’s rows do not name the account, so every TD file is treated as a taxable account. Leave TFSA, RRSP and other registered account exports out.
The older eight-column export. A layout without Symbol and Currency columns goes through the column mapper.
Commissions. TD’s standard commission is $9.99 a trade, $7.00 for active traders, with $1.25 a contract on options and nothing on a list of commission-free ETFs. The Commission column shows what was charged, and Net Amount is what the calculation uses.
Early support, and your file helps. TD Direct Investing support is newer than IBKR, Questrade or Wealthsimple and was built from real customer exports. To keep improving it, each TD Direct Investing file you upload is kept privately for 7 days and then deleted, as the privacy policy describes. You can turn this off on your profile page. Rows the parser does not recognize are never guessed at, and each one is named in your warnings with its row number.
Before you file from the slip, see why your TD T5008 may not reflect your true ACB.
Which TD tax slips should I expect?
For a non-registered account, TD’s dates for the 2025 tax year put the T5, the T5008 and the Trading Summary at February 28, 2026, the Realized Gains and Losses report in early March, and the T3 from each fund company and the T5013 at March 31. Quebec residents receive the matching Relevé slips. The year-end package can be downloaded for the last eight tax years.
The Activity CSV is still the better source for an adjusted cost base calculation. It is the TD transaction export ActiveACB reads directly and includes purchases within the selected date range. The reports summarize one account after the year ends, and TD itself says the book cost in them is not guaranteed.
The dates and report descriptions come from TD’s tax documents help page.
